"Expect the Unexpected"
As Oscar Wilde once said "Expect the Unexpected".
2025 has definately been filled with a LOT of unexpected.
Most recently we experienced a burst pipe which caused our well to pump 300 gallons of water into our basement in about 6 minutes. And by basement, I mean (in part) my studio.
All artists worry about their work being damaged, whether in shipping, in transport to a gallery or yes, even in your own studio.
I had about 18 pieces in the studio at the time and sadly I lost three. You can't cry over spilled milk, but surely you are permitted a couple of tears over lost paintings, right?
As we clean the space and prep for a rebuild, I realize that we really do grow from hard places. This is an opportunity to purge what I don't need, organize what I do and make the most of my studio space as we piece it back together.
And it is an opportunity for my collectors. If I need a place to house paintings while we rebuild, why don't I try to find them new homes instead? So after a couple of days of wading through water and salvaging easels and furniture, I decided to do a sale.
Nothing in the sale was damaged in the flood (In fact it wasn't even in the same room as the flood). I would much rather pack it to send to a new home than send it to storage, and pull it back out in a couple of months.
So do me a favour, check out the sale when it opens Feb 14th, and take some new work home.
In the meantime, check out this photo of the current state of things, and feel just a bit sorry for me! :)
